Prem Narayan

Mr. Prem Narayan, is an officer of the Indian Civil Services, Government of India. He received his B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kanpur,  M. Tech. in Design of Mechanical Equipment from IIT Delhi and MBA from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Bangalore. He specializes in the domains related to green-supply chain strategies, materials management, and meta-logistics management,  as applicable for large scale public systems.

He has handled leadership responsibilities in various key areas involving both policy and operations of the Government such as – Procurement, Inventory Management, Sale of Scrap through Public Auction, Vigilance, Import Clearance, Food Safety & Quality, and Infrastructure Development & Corporate Planning during past 20 years of Service with multiple government agencies, such as  Indian Railways, IRCTC Ltd and Director of Estates, Director (JnNURM) Ministry of Urban Development, Director (Foreign Procurement), Railway Board, Ministry of Railways and Chief Materials Manager, West Central Railway, Jabalpur.

Prem has undergone various advanced leadership workshops such as — Maxwell School of Citizenships & Public Administration, Syracuse University, the USA during 2005, a workshop on “Budgeting and Financial Management for Public Sector” at Duke Center for International Development, Duke University, Durham, North Carolina, the USA in July 2011 workshop on “Managerial accounting and financial control” at London School of Economics, London, the UK in July 2014. He has participated in a leadership program on “Strategic Management” at the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad in July 2015, and an Advanced Management Programme at INSEAD.

He has authored more than 20 papers in the areas of Supply Chain Management, Smart City and JnNURM, with published papers in these areas in several national and international conferences. He has also authored a book on “Emerging Trends in Supply Chain Management – Frameworks, Models & Applications”, a publication of Quality Council of India (QCI) and is available in more than 500 leading Management institutions of India.

Apart from Several appreciation and awards by IIMM and Indian Railways for his exemplary contribution, he a recipient National e-Governance Award for E-awas in 2011 and QCI-DL Shah National Appreciation award for PMIS in JnNURM in 2014. He has been felicitated in SAP Forum 2014 for eminent Jury member for SAP-ACE Awards 2014.

Mr. Narayan is a Life Fellow Member of Indian Institute of Materials Management, Life member of Indian Railway Institute of Logistics and Materials Management, and member of National Board for Quality Promotion at  Quality Council of India. Presently he is providing leadership to many national initiatives as the Deputy Director-General, Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Head Quartered at New Delhi.
